1. Information We Collect

HookCast is designed to respect your privacy. We collect minimal data to provide our fishing weather forecast service:

  • Email address (optional): Only if you subscribe to our newsletter or join the app waitlist. Used solely for sending fishing forecasts and product updates.
  • Location data: If you use the "Use My Location" feature, your GPS coordinates are used client-side only to determine the nearest fishing location. We do not store, transmit, or log your precise coordinates.
  • Analytics data: We use Google Analytics 4 (with IP anonymization enabled) to understand site usage patterns. This collects anonymized data such as page views, session duration, and approximate city-level location derived from IP address.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide fishing weather forecasts and tide data for your selected location
  • To send you fishing forecast newsletters (if subscribed)
  • To improve our service based on aggregated, anonymized usage data

3. Data We Do Not Collect

  • We do not require user registration or login
  • We do not store your GPS coordinates
  • We do not sell or share personal data with third parties
  • We do not use cookies for advertising or tracking across sites

4. Location Data

When you click "Use My Location," your browser's Geolocation API provides your coordinates. These are processed entirely in your browser to find the nearest supported coastal city. Your precise location is never sent to our servers, stored in any database, or shared with any third party.

5. Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 with IP anonymization enabled. GA4 collects anonymized usage data to help us understand which features are most useful. You can opt out of Google Analytics by using a browser extension or enabling Do Not Track in your browser settings.

6. Email Subscriptions

If you subscribe to our newsletter, your email is stored securely and used only for sending fishing weather updates and product announcements. Every email includes an unsubscribe link. You can request deletion of your email at any time by contacting us.

7. Third-Party Services

  • Open-Meteo: Weather data provider (no personal data shared)
  • NOAA: Tide prediction data (no personal data shared)
  • Google Analytics 4: Anonymized site analytics
  • Vercel: Hosting provider with standard server logs

8. Your Rights

Under applicable privacy laws (including CCPA/CPRA for California residents), you have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we collect
  • Request deletion of your personal information
  • Opt out of any data sale (we do not sell data)
  • Non-discrimination for exercising your rights
